How To Plan For Increased Business Growth in 2023 by Infusing More JOY in Your Coaching Business

I know, I know. We’re still very much enjoying the fourth quarter of 2022. The weather is starting to shift, the temperatures are starting to drop — and you’re about to become busier than you’ve been all year.

We always say we’ll make time for goal-setting and reflection during Q4 and then the holidays hit, and BOOM: it’s January 1st, 2023.

This is why I want to encourage you to start thinking about your goals for 2023 now. Not only will it take the pressure off during Q4, but you’ll be able to start the year with a clear plan and vision for what you want to achieve.

So, set aside a couple of hours on your calendar before it gets cluttered with holiday parties and travel plans, and use it to consciously create your vision for the year ahead.

Let’s get started.

Step 1: Take Inventory

You can’t move forward if you don’t know where you are right now. So, the first step in setting goals for 2023 is to take inventory of your business — and your life — as it stands today.

Ask yourself:

  • Here are a few questions to get you started:
  • How much revenue did you generate in 2022?
  • How many new clients did you acquire?
  • Were those clients aligned with your mission?
  • How many days did you work per week? Hours?
  • What did you love about your business?
  • What didn’t you love?

Reflection is a powerful tool in business. Thinking back on your year will give you valuable insights into what’s working and what’s not. And those insights will be crucial as you start planning for 2023.

Step 2: Visualize.

After you’ve taken inventory, it’s time to start thinking about what you want your business — and your life — to look like in 2023.

This is where you get to dream big. And I mean BIG. There are no wrong answers here. The only goal is to get clarity on what you want.

Ask yourself:

  • What kind of revenue do I want to generate?
  • What kind of clients do I want to work with?
  • How many days a week do I want to work? Hours?
  • What kind of lifestyle do I want to create for myself?

Again, there are no wrong answers. The only goal is to get clear on what you want. And the best way to do that is to visualize it.

So, close your eyes and take a few deep breaths. Then, imagine yourself one year from now — on December 31st, 2023. What does your business look like? How do you feel? What are you doing?

Take your time with this exercise. Really let yourself feel into it. The more details you can visualize, the better.

When you’re finished, open your eyes and grab a piece of paper. Write down everything that comes to mind, no matter how big or small.

Step 3: Plan, plan, plan.

Visions don’t do us any good if we don’t have a plan to make them a reality. So, the next step is to start mapping out your path to 2023.

It’s really easy to get overwhelmed at this stage and throw in the towel. But, I promise, it’s worth it to push through.

Start by looking at your list from Step 2. What are the most important things you want to achieve? Pick one or two — three tops.

Then, break those down into smaller goals. Work backward from your big vision and figure out what needs to happen to get you there.

For example, if your goal is to double your revenue, what does that look like? How many new clients would you need to acquire? What kind of pricing would you need to put in place?

The route you take will likely shift and change as the year goes on. But having a plan will help you accomplish the biggest, toughest step: getting started.
