New Year, New You — A Rethinking of Seasons, Being and Business

--

The message I see everywhere this time of year is new year, new you. And while there’s some truth to this time of year being a great time to reinvigorate yourself after the post holiday haze, it also gets us away from a more natural way of being.

Last fall, when I was in Spain, hiking El Camino, I stayed in a hotel that had some really incredible art from the first Spanish almanac. And I had an epiphany — we (collectively) used to do things seasonally based on how it made sense to live. Along the way — the last several hundred years or so — we’ve gotten away from that.

Winter is not meant to be a time of productivity. It’s meant to be a time of rest and planning for the year ahead.

So I reorganized my entire business around the seasons to live a more natural, more joyful rhythm.

And this season? It should be all about planning for what’s to come, not just going full bore into productivity, as so many people think.

We’ve stopped talking about things in quarterly terms here at Joyful Business Revolution — Q1, Q2, Q3, Q4. Instead, we’re thinking of things in terms of the seasons:

  • Winter — resting and expanding your vision (think strategic planning)
  • Spring — planting seeds and new beginnings (think lead generation)
  • Summer — enjoying the long days and beginning to reap the harvest (think offer launch, sales, and growth)
  • Fall — reaping what you’ve sown with a harvest and gratitude (think sales, results, operations, and celebration)

Over the next year, you’ll start to see how it comes together with the workshops and offerings we’re developing to help you grow your business according to rhythms that make sense — so you can live more joyfully.
